Donation Policy
Thank you for your generosity. UnityRelief Inc is committed to complete transparency in how we receive, manage, and distribute donated funds. This Donation Policy explains everything you need to know about giving through our platform.
1. Our 501(c)(3) Status
UnityRelief Inc is a tax-exempt organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the United States Internal Revenue Code. Our federal Employer Identification Number (EIN) is [981914776].
All donations to UnityRelief Inc are generally tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law. You will receive an official donation receipt via email for every contribution, which you may use for tax purposes. We encourage you to consult your tax advisor regarding the deductibility of your specific donation.
2. How Donations Are Allocated
Story-Directed Donations
When you donate through a specific story page, your donation is placed into a dedicated fund for that family or individual. We deliver 100% of story-directed donations (minus payment processing fees of approximately 2.2% + $0.30 per transaction charged by Stripe) to the designated beneficiary within 30 days of receipt.
General Fund Donations
Donations to our General Emergency Fund are allocated as follows:
• 80% — Direct family and crisis support
• 15% — Operations, verification, and delivery costs
• 5% — Organizational growth and outreach
3. Payment Processing
Donations are processed securely through Stripe, a PCI-DSS Level 1 certified payment processor. UnityRelief Inc does not store your credit card, debit card, or bank account information on our servers. All payment data is handled directly by Stripe using bank-grade encryption.
We accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover. We also accept payments via Apple Pay, Google Pay, and PayPal where available.
4. Currency
All donations are processed in United States Dollars (USD). If you are donating from outside the United States, your bank or payment provider will apply the applicable currency conversion rate.
5. Recurring Donations
You may choose to make a recurring monthly donation. Recurring donations will be charged to your payment method on the same date each month. You may cancel your recurring donation at any time by contacting us at contact@unityreliefinc.org. Cancellation requests will be processed within 5 business days, and no further charges will be made after that date.
6. Refund Policy
Donations to UnityRelief Inc are generally non-refundable, as funds are committed to beneficiaries and operational costs upon receipt.
However, if you believe a donation was made in error — for example, due to a technical error resulting in a duplicate charge — please contact us at contact@unityreliefinc.org within 14 days of the transaction. We will review each request individually and may issue a refund at our sole discretion, subject to:
- Whether the funds have already been disbursed to a beneficiary
- Payment processing fees already incurred
- The nature and circumstances of the error
We will not issue refunds simply because a donor changed their mind after the fact.
7. Beneficiary Verification
UnityRelief Inc takes the following steps to verify beneficiaries before publishing their stories and before releasing funds:
- Review of supporting documentation (identification, medical records, displacement records where available)
- Intake interview with the individual or family
- Cross-referencing with trusted field contacts and partner organizations where applicable
- Ongoing follow-up to confirm fund delivery and document impact
In active conflict zones and disaster regions, independent verification may be more limited. We clearly disclose any limitations in our verification process for individual stories when applicable.
8. Fund Delivery
We aim to deliver funds to beneficiaries within 30 days of receipt. Delivery methods vary depending on the beneficiary’s location and circumstances, and may include bank transfer, mobile money transfer, coordination with local partner organizations, or other appropriate methods. We publish updates on each story page to keep donors informed of how their contributions were used.
9. Inability to Deliver Funds
In the rare event that we are unable to deliver funds to a specific beneficiary — due to circumstances such as the beneficiary’s relocation, inability to be reached, or changes in their situation — UnityRelief Inc will reallocate those funds to our General Emergency Fund to support other families in crisis, unless the donor requests an alternative arrangement or refund.
10. Financial Transparency
As a 501(c)(3) organization, UnityRelief Inc files an annual Form 990 with the Internal Revenue Service. Our financial records and Form 990 filings are available to the public upon request. To request copies, please contact us at contact@unityreliefinc.org.
We are committed to publishing an annual impact report detailing how donor funds were used and the families supported during the year.
11. Corporate and Matching Gifts
We gladly accept corporate donations and can provide documentation required for corporate matching gift programs. If your employer offers matching gifts, please contact your HR department and provide our EIN: [981914776]. Matching gifts can significantly multiply your impact.
